Personally, I’ve been using and incorporating turmeric into my health regimen for years now. I’ve used it in my face masks, added the powder into my meals, added fresh turmeric into my juices and recently started taking the capsules for the added health benefits. Word of advice: turmeric is a very potent substance so it stains; if you decide to add it into your cooking or juicing, be extra careful when handling and don’t spill! I have white counter-tops in my kitchen smh and also wore light jeans one day to work and spilled my juice on them smh! I’m extremely clumsy so maybe it’s just me! There are truly many benefits of turmeric; it’s hard to count them all but I will try to break some down. First, turmeric works as an anti-inflammatory so if you suffer from any swelling or pain, this can aid with this ailment. Also, it would benefit someone who has completed a high intensity workout due to any soreness felt in the muscles afterwards (this is the main reason I wanted to start incorporating turmeric into my daily regimen). Tumeric can also increase your antioxidant capacity, which helps to protect cells in your body from free radical damage that occurs from exposure to certain chemicals. These are just some of many benefits that turmeric provides to the body. I decided to make a lemon, turmeric quinoa to show you one easy way to incorporate turmeric into your diet. This recipe is very simple to make; here are the ingredients:
I used my rice cooker to cook the quinoa for about 20 minutes (the cool thing about the rice cooker is that you don’t have to worry about timing the cooking since the cooker takes care of that for you-go invest in one!)
While the quinoa is cooking, go ahead and prep and cut up your green onions and cut your lemon.
hen the quinoa gets close to done, go ahead and add the turmeric, lemon juice, green pepper, salt and pepper and a bit of coconut oil.
When it finishes cooking (the rice cooker will click on the setting ‘warm’ when done), stir the quinoa and plate/garnish!
So Yummy and full of nutritious benefits! This is one great, easy way of incorporating the “power house” turmeric into your diet; make sure you try it out for yourself!
