In this week’s podcast, we talk about misconceptions in the fitness industry surrounding cardio and weight training. We started off by mentioning some clear benefits of weight training versus cardio, which are that: metabolism stays elevated for up to 38 hours, better for building muscle, ability to reshape your body and it’s more sustainable and fun to do. We mention the misconception of women that lift heavy weights will get bulky. We explain our experience of sticking to the cardio machines and being afraid to lift weights at the beginning of our journey because of this myth. We also mention the misconception of women’s body image issues and the myth of being thinner versus curvier is healthier and more accepted in society. Nowadays, social media has slowly begun to fix this issue and has elevated and put much curvier, plus size women in the forefront of ads and made it more appealing to have curves.
