I’ve always been critical about what type of products I use in my hair. They need to be pure, all natural and have many moisturizing properties. Since my hair is extremely curly, it gets really dry and breaks off easily. I’ve tried countless of products and paid a large sum of money for them but finally thought of a way I could make similar products with household items I normally have on hand. This recipe is for a hair mask that I use once a week and it consists mainly of avocado, olive oil, coconut oil and honey. The avocado gives it a thick, creamy texture that is critical for a deep conditioner. Depending on what type groceries I have in the house, I will sometimes add in some ripe banana, Greek yogurt or apple cider vinegar. All of these ingredients are known for their moisturizing properties. The more the merrier! I usually mix these ingredients up in my blender, scrape into a small bowl and apply generously to the hair, starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots. I then wrap my hair up with a shower cap or two and then put on a cute head wrap to go on about my day and still look cute! =) I leave it on for 4-8 hours depending on how free my day is. This will give it enough time to fully penetrate the hair shaft and get your hair nice and soft! After it has penetrated, you can wash it out with cool water and go ahead and clean your scalp of any residue or impurities. I add apple cider vinegar to the mask to loosen up any dirt or oil in my hair and as I’m rinsing, I wash with a shampoo bar. Remember, if you have really curly hair like I do, you have to take the time to care for it and nurture it. Hope you get a chance to try this hair mask out and definitely let me know how you like it!
